4th Translational Cardiovascular Research Meeting

We have already confirmed the first key note lecture for the 4th Translational Cardiovascular Research Meeting: Professor Paulus Kirchhof, Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine.
His recent publications include single cardiomyocyte RNA-seq as well as one of the early papers profiling circRNAs in the human heart.
We are proud to have Paulus Kirchhof as a key note lecturer.

On 27 and 28 June the Netherlands Heart Institute organised the 3rd Translational Cardiovascular Research Meeting. The central theme this year was “The future belongs to the young”. The congress was well visited with around 350 people that attended.
Barbara Casadei gave an inspiring keynote lecture about the life of young women (and men) in science, with the main message that we should not give up too easy. It will get better over time, if we would just give it a try. Roger Foo closed the congress with yet another interesting lecture about genomics.
In the scientific sessions we had international input from Spiros Denaxas (London), Declan O’Regan (London), Sophie Van Linthout (Berlin) and Emelia Benjamin (Boston).
The scientific sessions discussed topics such as heart failure, big data and machine learning, sex differences in cardiovascular diseases, lifestyle and prevention, and many more. Overall, it was again an interesting congress where scientists could share their data and views on cardiovascular topics.
We congratulate Aimée Sakes with winning the Einthoven Dissertation Prize and Jouke Bokma and Bastiaan du Pre with strong second and third prizes. Elise Kessler and Arend van Deutekom took home a €45.000 fellowship to work abroad for one year. Renee Maas and Tom Bracco Gartner won a €30.000 fellowship made available by the PLN foundation.
Joep Eding, Arwa Kohela and Job Verdonschot won the poster prizes and last but not least; Jorg Calis and Martijn Wehrens won the DCVA Talent Grant. Congratulations to all!
We would like to thank the Program Committee: Eva van Rooij, Marie José Goumans, Geert Boink, Niels Riksen, Emma Robinson and Wouter Jukema.We heard lots of positive reactions to the congress program this year, due to the efforts of these committee members. The Fellowships give promising young researchers from the Netherlands the opportunity to work for up to one year in an international top quality academic centre anywhere in the world to gather skills or knowledge that can consequently be applied in a Dutch academic centre.
The Netherlands Heart Institute can facilitate up to 2 Fellowships of €45.000 each for one year.
You can apply for a shorter Fellowship in which case the amount is reduced proportionally. For example, for a 4 month Fellowship you can apply for up to €15.000. Read all the details here.
